Query Critique:

Queries should be succinct, intriguing, and clear. I will give you detailed notes on how to help your query stand out in the slush pile, including rewrite suggestions.

Big Picture Evaluation:

I will write an editorial letter, giving you an overview of the strengths and weaknesses in your manuscript (or pages). Here is what I'll be focusing on:

  • Plot and Pacing: Does every page propel the story forward? Is there enough conflict?
  • Character Development: Do I care about your characters? Are they fully-realized and consistent?
  • Voice: Is your voice compelling, consistent, and authentic?
  • Dialogue: Is it realistic and concise?
  • Writing: Is it easy and enjoyable to read? Does it flow and fit the tone of the book?
  • Overall Structure: Are you starting the story in the right place? Is your ending rushed or abrupt?

This is a letter only. I will not make any notes or edits on your manuscript.

Manuscript Notes:

I will make notes (track changes) in your manuscript, pointing out my reactions as I read, awkward sentences/paragraphs, organizational issues, inconsistencies, areas that need trimming, repetition, any grammar/spelling errors I notice, and more. The price depends on how extensive you'd like the notes to be. My goal here is to help clean up your manuscript and make it shine. This does not include in-depth line-editing (ie correcting all spelling and grammar errors, proofreading, etc) or rewrite suggestions.

Proofreading:

I will proofread your manuscript and correct any spelling/grammar errors, typos, or missing words I come across. This will be my only focus--no big picture edits.

Rewriting/Consultation:

I will be your fresh pair of eyes and help you work out issues with character development, plot, structure, and your writing. I'll also provide rewrite suggestions.

Web/Graphic Design/Music
